Make your own paper squishy

A paper squishy needs less than most people think. You colour two halves of a template and cover them with clear tape. Then you tape the halves together and push a little stuffing inside. Give yourself a good half hour for the first one. Our free printable templates come with 20 motifs from toast to dumpling, and the paper squishy guide walks you through every step.

The tape decides how it feels

Wide clear tape gives the paper its glossy skin. Pull it tight as you lay it down, because loose tape leaves wrinkles. Our wide clear tape is 5.5 cm across and covers a template half in a few strips. Colour the template first and let felt tip ink dry for a moment, or it smears under the tape. Washi tape adds stripes and borders before the clear tape goes on, and our craft scissors spring open again after every cut.

Nano tape bubbles and sponge squishies

Nano tape is sticky on both sides. Fold a strip of about 14 cm over a straw, seal the edges and blow it up into a soft bubble. A pinch of glitter on the sticky side makes it sparkle. Sponge squishies work differently. You cut a makeup sponge into a simple shape, put it on a toothpick and dab paint on in thin layers. The bear sponges come already shaped.

What do I need to make a paper squishy?

Paper, pens, wide clear tape and scissors, plus soft stuffing like polyester fiberfill or the inside of an old cushion. A glue stick helps if you want to stick the template onto thicker paper.

Why won't my paper squishy squish?

Most of the time it is stuffed too tight, so take some stuffing out again. A few pin pricks in the tape let air move in and out and the squishy rises again slowly. An adult does the pricking with a fine needle.

Is DIY squishy material safe for children?

Glitter, cut tape and small sponge pieces are small parts and not for children under 3. An adult should do the cutting and stay close by. We don't sell water beads or slime kits.

Can I order DIY supplies together with squishies?

Yes, everything arrives in one order from our partner warehouse in 7 to 15 working days. Shipping costs and free shipping are on the shipping page.
