Squishy Mystery Box or a Fixed Set? A Collector's Guide

A squishy mystery box is a gamble you pay for, and a fixed set is a list you can read before you buy. Collectors usually need both. The box is for the thrill and the set is for the piece you actually want.

Quick answer

Pick a mystery box if opening it is half the fun and you have friends to trade doubles with. Pick a fixed set if you're chasing one design or want every colour of a series. We don't sell mystery boxes, only sets that name every piece. Delivery takes 7–15 working days to most EU countries, Australia and New Zealand.

Squishy mystery box vs fixed set

Question Mystery box Fixed set
Do you know what's inside? No, that's the point Yes, every piece is named
Can you get doubles? Yes, and more often the more boxes you open No
Can you get a "rare" one? Maybe, if the seller says so No chase, but nothing missing either
Price per piece Unknown until you open it Set price divided by the number of pieces
Can you check the material first? No Yes, on every product page

Not ready for a whole set? Our squishy gifts under 10 are single pieces, so you can start a collection one squishy at a time.

What do "rare" and "secret" really mean?

"Rare" is only a promise if the box tells you the odds. When no chance is printed on the packaging, rare is just a word on a sticker. The seller decides how often that piece turns up, and you can't check it.

Good to know

No printed odds, no real "rare". Treat it as a bonus, not a reason to buy one more box.

"Secret" pieces work a little differently. In many blind box series the secret one isn't shown on the box at all, so you only find out it exists when someone pulls it.

That's exciting. It also means you can buy box after box and still never see it. Some collectors only find out from a trading friend that the secret was there all along.

What should you do with doubles?

Trade them. Squishy fans go "hunting" from store to store and swap their doubles on trading boards. Some stores already limit how many pieces one person may buy (KMUW, 21.08.2026).

A double is only worth something if somebody wants it. Three of the same pink bun are a trading stack at school. Alone in your room they're just three pink buns.

What to check before you open a blind box

You can't read the label of a squishy you haven't seen. So you also can't tell whether it's plain foam or a skin full of water beads until it's in your hand.

On 3 September 2026 the US Consumer Product Safety Commission recalled about 7,200 "Rainbow Mystery Squishy Bun Toys" (recall 26-737). The water beads inside grow bigger than the US toy standard allows, and swallowed beads can block the gut.

"The squishy bun toys are a translucent pink color, containing glitter and water beads."

CPSC, recall 26-737, 03.09.2026

That toy was sold in the US. Still, when we checked Google's suggestions on 26 October 2026, "squishy bun rainbow mystery" came up in five EU countries. In the 2026 recalls and warnings we collected from several countries, nearly every case involved gel or water bead fillings or cheap dumplings and fakes. We found far fewer about plain foam or silicone.

Careful

Water beads and gel fillings are not for small children. Don't bite or cut open squishies like these, and keep them away from heat.

Fixed sets: every piece on the list

A set is the fast way to finish a series. On our sets the crossed-out price is the sum of the single prices, so you can see the saving straight away.

Set What's inside How it feels
Bakery squishy box six pastries, from croissant to canelé PU foam, rises back slowly
Chocolate bar set the chocolate bar in all six colours PU foam, rises back slowly
Capybara slow rising set turtle capybara and both strawberry hoods PU foam, rises back slowly
Slow rising trio salmon sushi, watermelon, little ghost PU foam, rises back slowly
Kawaii toast set all five toast faces PU foam, rises back slowly
Mochi rice cake set strawberry, blueberry, matcha, taro soft and very stretchy

What's inside and the feel come from the product pages. Each page also lists any age note from the maker.

Make your own mystery bag

You don't need a blind box to get the surprise. Pick single squishies you like and wrap them up. Then let a friend choose.

Paper bags work fine. Put one squishy in each bag and fold the top over twice. Then stick a gold star on one bag and call it the secret. Swap bags with friends and open them all at once.

Want it fair? Write down which bag holds which squishy before you mix them. Then nobody can say you kept the good one.

Try it yourself

Before you open a bag, squeeze it through the paper and guess what's inside. A flat chocolate bar and a puffy croissant feel very different under your thumb.

FAQ

Are squishy mystery boxes worth it?

They're worth it if the surprise is what you're paying for. You can't plan the contents or work out the price per piece, and doubles come with the deal. If you're after one exact design, buy that one directly as a single or in a set.

What does "secret" mean in a squishy blind box?

A secret is a piece the seller keeps quiet about. In many series it isn't pictured on the box. Without printed odds you can't know how often it turns up.

How long does delivery to Australia take?

Delivery to Australia takes 7–15 working days, the same as to New Zealand and most EU countries. Prices show in AUD or NZD. Shipping costs and the free shipping threshold are on our shipping page.

Does Squishy Vault sell mystery boxes?

No, we only sell fixed sets and single squishies right now. For a surprise, make your own mystery bag from single pieces. Buying for someone else? Our squishy Christmas gift guide and the guide to the squishy advent calendar have more ideas.
