Six bear craft sponges arrive already cut, so the scissors can stay in the drawer. Pick bears, square slices or a mix of both. All of them are light brown, latex free sponge and ready to become a DIY bear squishy.

How do you paint a bear sponge squishy?

Push a toothpick into the bottom as a handle. Dab the paint on in thin layers instead of brushing it. Light colors go first and dark ones last, then the piece stays upright on its toothpick until it's dry.

A pink belly needs only a few dabs. The slice becomes toast the moment a yellow square of butter sits on top.

Want a glossy skin? Once the paint has dried, brush on a very thin coat of PVA wood glue and let it dry on baking paper, or it glues itself to the table. Thick coats stay tacky.

How big are the bear sponges?

The bear is about 4 × 4.5 cm, a little bigger than a walnut. The slice measures about 3.3 × 1.7 × 4 cm. All six go back into the storage bag that comes with them.
