Squishies for Adults, Quiet for the Desk and Cute for the Shelf

The best squishies for adults at work are the ones without a crackly filling, like a foam bun you squeeze under the desk while your camera is on. Loud crunchy squishies are fun at home, but in an open-plan office they turn heads. Below you get two picks for each of four situations.

Quick answer

For calls and shared offices pick slow rising foam or soft silicone, since neither has a filling that crackles. Knead a chewy jelly ball or a gel cheese while you think. Kawaii faces go on the shelf, and a colleague gets a panda in its own gift box.

Which squishy suits which situation?

A few squishy words show up in the table. TPR is thermoplastic rubber, a soft plastic that gives way slowly and feels chewy. Maltose is malt sugar, so "maltose style" means the TPR moves as slowly as thick malt syrup. Taba is the name for squishies made of soft silicone that you can fold and shape.

Situation Our pick Material and size Filling in the description
Video call Cloud bun PU foam, 8 × 6.5 cm (3.1 × 2.6 in), 20 g none, foam all through
Video call Hamster daifuku silicone (taba), palm-sized none named
Kneading Maltose taffy ball TPR, maltose style gel, some styles with flowers inside
Kneading Jumbo jelly cheese clear shell, jumbo size petroleum jelly
Shelf Kawaii toast PU foam, fits one hand none, foam all through
Shelf Jumbo cactus plastic, 10.5 × 10 cm (4.1 × 3.9 in) none named
Gift Lying panda TPR, in a 7 × 8.2 cm (2.8 × 3.2 in) box none named
Gift Mini jelly fish clear TPR, 6 × 4.5 cm (2.4 × 1.8 in) none named, some with glitter
Not for open-plan offices Creaky highland cow TPR, 8.5 cm (3.3 in) block pieces that creak loudly

All sizes and fillings are the makers' specs from the product pages.

On 26 October 2026 we read through all 104 squishies visible in our shop. 14 mention a crunch or creak or carry "crunchy" in the name. The other 90 name no sound, which isn't proof of silence but makes a decent first filter.

Which squishy is quiet enough for a video call?

Foam or silicone. The cloud bun is a flat golden bun of slow rising PU foam, 3 cm (1.2 in) thick and so light at 20 g that you barely feel it in your hand. A deep squeeze leaves a dent that fades over a few seconds.

The hamster daifuku is the softer pick. It's silicone in the taba style, and the product photos show it folded almost in half in one hand. Let go and it slowly puffs back into a round bun with a slightly worried face.

Leave the creaky highland cow at home. Its own product text promises a creak that makes people at the next desk look up.

Try it yourself

Record a voice memo on your phone and squeeze your squishy right next to the mic for ten seconds. Play it back. If all you hear is your own breathing, it's safe for calls.

Which squishy is good for kneading while you think?

Pick one that changes shape slowly. The maltose taffy ball is clear jelly-like TPR. Squeeze it into any shape and it slowly works its way back into a ball. Prefer the chewy kind? Our jelly squishies are clear TPR, some with a gel filling.

The jumbo jelly cheese does the opposite. Pinch a corner or roll it into a lump and it keeps that shape until you change it again. Online it often goes by "vaseline cheese" because the filling is petroleum jelly.

Careful

Both have a gel or maltose filling. Don't bite them or cut them open, never warm them on a radiator and keep them away from small children.

Which squishies look good on a shelf?

The ones with faces. Our kawaii squishies are made for lining up, and the toast is the easiest one to start a row with.

Our kawaii toast with sweat drop

Each kawaii toast is slow rising PU foam with a face, from a smiley with a sweat drop to a pig. The maker rates them from age 14 and adds a light milky scent. Lovely on your own shelf, maybe less so on the shared meeting table.

Want one big piece instead of a row? The jumbo cactus sits in a pink pot and needs no water. Dust is the only care it asks for, and our squishy care guide explains cleaning for each material.

What squishy can you give a colleague?

One that arrives ready to hand over. The lying panda is soft TPR and comes in a clear box with a panda print. You won't need wrapping paper.

For a smaller hello there's the mini jelly fish, a clear TPR taiyaki that slips into a jacket pocket. The maker says it's not for children under 3, so it's a desk gift and not one for a colleague's toddler.

How we picked these

We picked from product data and not from a test bench. Sound came first: apart from the highland cow as a warning, no squishy here has a crackle or creak in its description. Then material, so foam or silicone for quiet hands and TPR for chewy ones. To compare the materials themselves, read our guide to types of squishies.

FAQ

Are squishies only for kids?

No. Market research firm Circana found that buyers aged 18 and up drove 35 % of US toy growth from January to April 2026, counting all toys. Some makers even rate their squishies from age 14, like our kawaii toast.

Do squishies help with stress?

The research is mixed. A larger study with 135 people found no effect from a stress ball (JAMA Dermatology, 2018), while a small 2024 trial with 80 people found less anxiety. So we sell squishies for squeezing and kneading and promise nothing more.

Does a new squishy smell in the office?

It can, foam ones especially. The Dutch authority NVWA looked at 19 squishies in September 2026 and found small amounts of substances that smell like petrol. It judged them harmless for children and advised airing them out (NL Times, 24 Sept 2026). So let a new one sit by an open window before it moves onto your desk.
