Caterpillar bread is a long sweet roll with ridges all along its back, and this caterpillar bread squishy copies it stripe for stripe. Golden bands of crust sit between pale strips of dough.

15 cm or 21 cm?

You choose between two lengths. The short roll is 15 × 6.5 cm and weighs about 45 g. The long one is slimmer at 21 × 5.5 cm, around 3 cm high and lighter too, at about 37 g. That is exactly as long as an A4 sheet is wide.

Sizes	15 × 6.5 cm (5.9 × 2.6 in) or 21 × 5.5 cm (8.3 × 2.2 in)
Height	about 3 cm (1.2 in) for the long roll
Weight	about 45 g or 37 g
Material	PU foam, slow rising

What can you do with a ridged roll?

Bend it into a curve. Roll it between your palms. Or squeeze it ridge by ridge from one end to the other and watch the foam come back slowly behind your fingers. The ridges give your thumb a path to follow, which a round bun never does.

It sits well next to the other loaves in our bread squishies, so a little bakery shelf grows quickly.

How do you clean foam bread?

Dab it with a damp cloth and let it dry in the air. Never hold it under the tap or wring it out, because foam soaks up water and takes ages to dry. Store it loose in a box and not squashed flat for days.
