Twenty-one flat foam shapes wait in each box of this foam squishy painting set. They only turn into soft 3D squishies once they get wet, which is the moment kids crowd around the bowl.

How does the foam squishy kit work?

The maker keeps it short. Color a shape with the pens, then soak it in water for about a minute and watch it swell. Slip the finished piece into a clear bag and hook on a chain for a bag charm. Follow the maker's instructions in the box.

What's in the box?

Foam shapes	21 in one theme
Stickers	21, matching the shapes
Pens	12 color pens and 1 water pen
Extras	4 clear bags and 2 chains
Themes	fruit, desserts and sweets, hot pot, beauty

Only two chains come along. The other pieces stay loose squishies or move into the bags.

Which theme should you pick?

Every box sticks to a single theme. Fruit or desserts suit a sweet tooth. Hot pot is the odd one out, a whole little dinner to color in. And beauty is for anyone who would rather skip food altogether.

Is it a good gift?

For a crafty birthday kid it works well, because everything sits in one box and nothing extra has to be bought. A rainy weekend is another good excuse. Finished pieces stay away from heat and strong sun.

Tape, sponges and other craft bits are in our DIY squishy supplies.
